Fun Monday

I haven't done Fun Monday in a while due to one stupid thing or another, but I'm happy to join back up. I always enjoy seeing what everyone comes up with for their ideas.

Our hostess this week is Mariposa and she wants to know what we collect. Besides dust, demands for payment and mouthy kids anyway.

Collections...

We all have them...and if you don't, you do....you just may not realize it. For some reason or another we all collect something and we collect it for reasons that will definitely make for good reading. So on Monday, I want to see your collection. If you don't have or don't want or CAN'T (wink) show us a picture, then tell us what the collection is in 10 words or less. Then tell us why you started collecting it.

Okay, here is my ten word sum-up.

I collect recipes I don't cook because it calms me.

Say what?

I love to clip recipes. I love to file recipes. I love to read recipes and think of how good they would taste or which occasion I could make them for or which member of my family would go hog wild for them. There was a day when I would actually cook some of them, too, but not lately. My poor kids are eating the same recycled eight or ten meals over and over again lately. The whole recipe thing is more of a relaxation technique than anything else. I grab a stack of magazines and climb into bed and snip away. It's like Zen Clipping.

And it works for me.

Very honest Fun Monday. Nothing wrong with clipping and not cooking them. I have a recipe box that I rarely touch too!

I collect old fruit and vegetable labels from the olden days, dead relatives (family history),and something I've never confessed to anyone but my sister.

I collect all the cat whiskers that I find on the floor and keep them in a baggy. This is so weird. There must be almost 100 whiskers. I cannot believe I just confessed this online.

For dead relative pics and label collection, just visit my blog. There are over 400 labels, which can be printed on light weight watercolor paper in your printer. They make great kitchen decor. They'd go very well with RC's recipe collection.

I collect Russian Babushka dolls & Japanese Kokeshi dolls! Don't ask me why? I suppose the Russian dolls started when Sam used to come home from Japan via Russia & he stopped to bring one home. The Japanese ones started when Harry & I were in Japan & we then regularly started receiving them. Now they are all over England! One of them should be on this page! More than ten words. Sorry!

I collect yarn (surprise), knitting needles and patterns. I pine over some of the patterns but know in my heart I'll never make them because there isn't the time and I seem to have a short attention span. Or, the designer made the pattern which cost me $5.00 but to knit, the yarn would cost me many hundreds. It's simpler to pine.

RC, you should go through those recipes and make the one that seems the most delicious to you. Serve wine with that meal. Use the good china.

That sounds like me reading cook books for fun and looking at the pictures as if it is pornography. I hardly ever cook any of it, I just like to read the recipes and look at the pictures and have since I was a kid. I read them like I read the encyclopedia. It was all interesting to me. Maybe I should have been encouraged more. Could have been a kitchen queen.

Ha! I do the same thing with coupons. I clip them and stick them in a box, but I never seem to use them. But I love cutting them out!

Sounds good to me Miss RC. Anything that is calming is good. Even chewing your toe nails. Not that I do that. No really, I don't.

The Man loves to sit and read cookbooks. Preferably on the steps in the kitchen. I don't mind him doing this as he's an excellent cook. However - he wants to read each one out to me - including the ingredients. So there I stand! and listen and make all the appropriate sounds. He likes to do this with the groceries as well. He does all the shopping and likes me to see everything he brings home. I think he's hoping I'll get inspired or something. Usually I just forget.

Oh you have reminded me about recipes, I have hundreds and, although I do try out new ideas, I mainly stick to old favourites!

Zen Clipping--I like the sound of that.

For a peak at some of my collection, check out the header on my blog. They're a bit less relaxing that your collection, but they make me smile.

I find this just odd, but I have a friend who collects cook books and she too does not cook. But I think Pixelpi has you beat on the odd level.

I'm with you on this one RC. Clip but don't cook--if it's Monday must be rice and mixed vegetables. . .Do you still have one of those recipe file boxes that an index card fits in? I do.

Hey.. make those kids cook.
