The Friday Four(got)

I worry myself sometimes, I really do. For example, as long as I've lived Thursday has come after Wednesday and before Friday. No real rocket science there, and yet it just slid on by.

But to prove that it is indeed possible to learn something from your kids, I offer up four reasons why it's not my fault. If a kid with scissors in one hand and my brand new (shredded) kitchen towel in the other can look me in the eye and say they didn't do it... well, so can I. And with as much conviction.

#1. It's been a little stressful around here. The report card came and was just as bad as anticipated. Some dear, dear friends of ours are having serious marital issues that threaten to completely upset our little world. One of my closest friends was (out of nowhere) diagnosed with a potentially life-threatening condition. The Film Geek has just leapt into a nice little mid-life crisis. The week has been filled with intense discussions in all the roles of mother, wife, friend and nurse. And I'm sick again. (Still?)

#2. The weather is nasty. Too warm to snow, too cold to get comfortable. Grey, gloomy, sleet spitting, lip chapping, dark around lunch time weather. Ugh.

#3. Some weeks were just made to make you feel overwhelmed and this is one of them.
It was a Bunco week (which means a night out) and I've picked up extra hours at work. I'm volunteering in Surfer Dude's classroom for a project. It's been a struggle to stay up to date on my blog reading, and for that I apologize. I'm about caught up, but it's taken a while. For all of you out there who have left me such wonderful comments and not heard back from me - I'm getting there. Honest. I'm nothing if not compulsive.

#4. Isn't three enough?

So sorry about your week. Sometimes it does pile up doesn't it? Usually just when we think we've finally got it together. Oh well, I hope the serious stuff comes out ok for everyone. Your post yesterday made me tear up by the way. Love your writing.

Sending you hugs. If I had your address I would send cocoa too.

The planets are out of alignment or something. I have had a week too.

And yes, three was enough.

Three was plenty, my dear.

I've had a helluva week, too. I think ped crossing is right. It's the damn planets' fault.

I guess I'm selfish; instead of getting behind on my blog reading, I just forego the blog writing. I'd rather read what my blog buddies write than write myself. It's more fun, and it's easier. Yep. Selfish.

I've had one of those weeks too. Days all jumbled up, not knowing what was what. Hope the weekend is better for you!

Sending you a great big hug! It stinks when everything goes wrong at the same time.

I do hope you feel better quickly and that things start to look a little brighter for you and the ones you love soon.

RC,
Virtual moral support is being sent through the ether as I write, and a big hug too. Some weeks are better forgotten.

It seems to have been a strange week for everyone.

Do you think maybe we could just get a do-over? *grin*

we should blog some time about these mid-life marital crises.

when i was in my 20s, and even early 30s, people broke up for dramatic reasons--he cheated! she drinks! i found someone new! that kind of thing.

but now, in our 40s and (here i am in my) 50s, the reasons are more complicated and subtle. it often boils down to a persistent unhappiness, prompted by nothing terribly dramatic, but serious just the same.

i know of four or five couples going through this, and i fear each one will end in divorce. and each one involves children.

very sad.

and "friday four(got)" is very clever, RC.

It's no wonder you can't get better, your stressing and worn out.
January is just a crappy month. The holidays are over and nothing great to look forward to except 3 more months of winter.
I think there is an epidemic of "mid life crises" or maybe its just our age. I wish everyone would just stop and think about what’s good in their life and realize the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.
Hugs to you my friend..

Bless your heart! I hope you have a better week next week. I really understand. Here's sending you a truck load of hugs!

I think, under the circumstances, you should give yourself a break RC. 3 is definitely enough. And if you aren't paying attention to the rest of us, we'll get over it!

The small son of a friend of mine, accused of hitting his sister, said "it wasn't me, it was my naughty right hand". Maybe those naughty scissors did the kitchen roll. And in your case, maybe it was the naughty stressful week.

I think you need to slow down. Chop one thing out of next week.

Hugs.

It seems that it is piling up around here too. It must be in the stars, I wish they would hurry up and realign.

Bummer. Sending hugs!

I think your blogging is pretty impressive. Bad weeks can always be forgotten and improved upon. A challenge for you for next week perhaps.

RC - You need a holiday. Feet up - beverage of your choice in hand - gorgeous men of your choice on the screen..no-one around.

RC, this quote will either make you feel better about your frazzled week OR make you want to punch my lights out! For me, this thought is very comforting when I'm knee-deep in the ups and downs of everyday life:

"Things that seem hard are not always that hard. Put one foot in front of the other and you'll get to the end."

What a week and yet you are still blogging your fabulous blogs - real commitment I call that. Hope next week is a whole lot easier.

Three is absolutely enough.

Here's to a much better next week - I'd even send you the Black Russians if I could.

It is so hard when so much seems to overwhelm us. I hope you are better soon.

The sun will come out tomorrow... Sorry that was a strained attempt at humor. I just had an awful day and am acting a bit manic to balance it all!

You ladies are THE BEST. I was tearing up first thing this morning reading your comments. Thank you for the moral support. I can feel it - honest.

Thanks too for the thoughts of cocoa and black russians, drinks of choice, hugs and reiki.

I'm sorry about all of you who have had crappy weeks, too, and I think we need to smack these planets around to realign properly. Come on already, planets!

Welcome to laura mcintyre and elizabethm. Come back again, okay? I'm usually not this maudlin. Honest.

faye - I love that quote and use a version very much like it a lot. Mine basically boils down to SUCK IT UP AND GET IT DONE. I think yours may be a little more eloquent.

And yes, let's do a midlife crisis blog, shall we? Grab a corkscrew and let's go!

I hope your weekend is better than your week. Sounds like some very tough stuff to deal with! I am sorry your week was so out of whack, especially since you are still not feeling so good.
Sounds like it's time to drink more of your famous hot coco, sit by the fire and read for pure pleasure. Give your mind total down time. (((HUGS)))

RC, January can be so exhausting. It's all 'Hapy New Year' but generally everyone's too knackered for the year to start yet. The weather is pants, everyone is broke and their are so many bugs and illnesses about that it's impossible to avoid.
Hope you feel loads better soon, and I'm sending you a big hug and a hanky. x
