Fun Monday

Fun Monday is being hosted by AOJ and the Lurchers this week. And get this - she wants to know all about our bedside table. What's on it, what's in it, what's special about it.

Okay, I can't show what's on it because my camera is nowhere to be found. And really, there's no reason to. My bedside table is really quite dull.

A lamp - with a white shade covered in dark dog hair.

An alarm clock - with an obnoxious snooze alarm so I don't feel bad about smacking it.

A basket of face creams, hand lotions and cuticle salve that I should use a lot more than I do. (And have the skin to prove it).

A huge pile of books and magazines in the section of the table that has a door. This makes it look a little tidier than it is.

My current knitting project - a fuzzy green hat for myself, since I've already made hats for the kids.

Dull stuff. I know.

But I'm really a dull person. And I have the bedside table to prove it.

Your bedside table is tidy? I am envious. You are anything but dull, even if you feel dull on a Monday morning.

honey, dull is not a word i would ever associate with you.

since you cant' show us a picture, tell us which books. inquiring minds want to know.

Kim said...

You're a lot of things, sweetheart. Dull is not one of them.

Alright. You asked for it.

The first three Stephanie Plum books by Janet Evanovich. (Which I have torn through and now want more).

Three books on the writing process. A sure sign that I'm taking this blogging thing way too seriously.

Nora Ephron - I Feel Bad About My Neck.

Three knitting books, including my perennial bedside favorite Stich 'N' Bitch.

A Diagnostic and Laboratory Test Reference guide.

And a whole pile of Cooking Light magazines so I can plan dinners for this week.

It's all covered with dog hair. Naturally.

laurie said...

ooh, i want to read that nora ephron book.

and a house isn't a home without huge wads of dog hair. at least, that's what i tell myself....

Tiggerlane said...

Heck, EVERYTHING I own seems to be covered in dog or cat hair - I'm beginning to think it's a decorating MUST!

I absolutely, positively beyond comprehension ADORE Nora Ephron. This isn't the best thing she's written, but it is laugh out loud funny.

In a scary and painful kind of way.

Maybe we could all start a movement to recognize dog hair as a legitimate style statement?

Aoj and The Lurchers said...

Oh dog hair...I managed to keep mine reltively dog hair free for the length of time it took to take the photograph!

So I'm right with you on the style statement. Let's get that (hair) ball rolling!!

A fuzzy green hat you are knitting alone makes it way more interesting than mine...

Sandy said...

So, I must ask. Was the green yarn fuzzy when you started or is it fresh dog hair? I own three of the beasts myself, so I'm just kidding!

Faye said...

Okay, I have the Nora Ephron in my stack as well, but not read--guess I've given up on my neck. . .

I've been reading your blog for awhile and "dull" is not one of the descriptions I have for you!

Aren't most bedside tables fairly dull? I mean, except for the handcuffs.

I love Stephanie Plum books. In fact I just picked up Janet Evanovich's book about writing. Obviously I've yet to crack it open, I'm hoping that it will just seep in while I sleep. :)

ChrisB said...

I wonder if the people who have 'shall we say interesting items'~ if you get my drift! will actually tell us about them!
I was going to ask about types of books but I see you have answered that!

laurie said...

chrisb: not on your life.

Diana said...

Dull is good. I've got to say that's a nice sized table to fit all that on it. Mine has small clock radio, small lamp, pile of books, glasses, dust, pet hair.

the rotten correspondent said...

aoj - I'm all for it. Maybe I should rethink three dark dogs in a light themed house.

ellen b. and sandy - the hat sounds much better than it is and it started out fuzzy. And green. Now it's fuzzier. And brownish green.

faye - her description of why she title the book that way is pretty funny. For a woman with a hidden neck, anyway.

amy - shhh.That's next week's Fun Monday.

Susan - she wrote a book about writing? Very interesting. (and yet one more thing to read).

chrisb and laurie - heh. Would that make a good post or what?

Maybe not.

the rotten correspondent said...

Diana - you're making me feel a lot better.

One can't judge a person by their bedside table and I know you're not dull!

Check the drawers of your bedside table very carefully...your camera might be hiding there.

Alison said...

Hey, I have dark dog hair on my lamp shade also!!

Kim said...

Laurie, Chris and RC, hasn't anyone told you that naughty things don't go into your nightstand?

They must be stored in a sealed box under the bed where the children cannot find them!

Beth said...

Well, I don't have a bedside table. It would block the heating vent. But my heating pad is lying on the floor (unplugged) right in front of the heat vent, so it's blue with orange, black, and grey furry style statements.

No sealed or taped box under the bed either. Boy is my life boring.

Can I join Fun Monday? My bedside table is a bookcase and right now it's got a lot of tissues all over it since I've picked up a cold. Rotten middle schoolers! Stephanie Plum books are so good; like candy! (and my "fun stuff" is in a basket under the bed) :)

Jo Beaufoix said...

Not dull RC. Not dull at all, in the slightest, one little bit. I mean, you could just have a glass of water and a kitkat on it, but instead you have the signs of an active mind, nimble fingers and creativity. Perfect.

I wish I even had a bedside table.

Beckie said...

Oh, I want to see the lampshade and the hat. I want to know how to knit - I don't want to learn I just want the knowledge transplanted to my brain.

Since we bought Sadie and Lilly over a year ago (and I am so glad we did) dog and cat hair have taken over my life, every inch of it!! I love Stephanie Plum, I hate when they end. I liked, I hate my neck too. My bedside table is covered in books, magazines, seltzer and of course dog and cat hair! Great minds think alike.....By the way, I need to e-mail you. I had a creepy experience yesterday...
XOXO

NLL lost her camera once, so we turned the house upside down. We found her old camera that she had lost a few years' earlier. It was (is) a "film" camera - wow, it is old. We looked it up on EBay thinking we could make a quick buck for the antique. Nope: a quick buck is about right, I think the going rate was about $8.00.
Soooo...., if you are in the market for a slightly dusty, Canon something that uses film (do they still make that stuff?), let me know then the next time you find you have an excuse for us not to see your drawers, - well, you won't.... NLM

You dull? Yeah right! You can guess if you want, I just didn't mention because we have men that visit. It's called Revelation.

Dull? Then we must all be dull!

and i love love love the stephanie plum books!!!

I can't believe that! - a tidy nightstand does not a boring person make...

Anyone who knits fuzzy green hats can't be too dull. ;o)

I wouldn't say you're dull in the slightest. And who says a bedside table has to be interesting? It serves a function and it sounds like yours does just fine.

I would not say your dull in the slightest, i admire neat and tidy and think its always wonderful
