Could someone please explain to me how it is that you can go to the gym three or four times a week for months, getting to the point where you can run five miles straight with absolutely no problem, but then, when you can't go for two weeks, you're almost back to square one?
How is this possible? Is my body trying to tell me something?
Maybe I should just pop open a bag of Nacho Cheese Doritos, flop down on the couch and say the heck with it?
I'm going to have to think about that.

I don't get it either.
No. No Doritos. Wait another day for muscle memory to kick in and you'll be fine. Really. Scouts honor.
Agree with Rudee. You get it back quick. Give it a chance.
Crossing my fingers that Rudee is right!
If you must go the Doritos route, do some gentle stretching exercises while you are munching ;-)
The Law according to Murphy.
Or according to Sod.
Depending which version you want.
I love Nacho Cheese Doritos.
I agree with Rudee...once you get past the intial shock, your muscles will remember what to do.
This is the voice of experience...It took me about 2-3 weeks before my body remembered what to do after my broken ankle healed.
It just FEELS like that. In reality, there's all that underlying fitness still there. Really. Scientifically proven.
Mmmmmm. Doritos.
And why is it that I lose five pounds when I don't go to the gym?
and why is it that i jog indoors and outdoors a couple of miles a couple of times a week with no problem, but then have an asthma attack running for the train?! other than that... as Rudee says.
I read somewhere that if you've been fit for at least 6 months, and take a break, you'll get back to fitness much more quickly than if you'd only been fit for a shorter time. I'd say some of your problem is being worn out from events of the past couple of weeks. Take care, mimi
Back away from the Doritos!!!!!!!
It really does come back fairly quick. If you haven't taken up kickboxing, now might be a good time. Great for relieving stress and a plus that it is such a great workout!
You are TIRED - that's why. Be gentle with yourself and you will get a fitness routine back in.
Take it from me. Really.
I never do any exercise, so I always have the same level of fitness, zilch. hah!
Don't doooo it! After only getting in twice this week, I'm not looking forward to tomorrow. But I have to go back and get back on it - I must.
Sigh.
You'll get it back.
