live from liberal collegeville...

I should have been a middle child.

Because in spite of the fact that I do have pretty strong opinions on a lot of things, I don't write about them much. I guess my feeling is that if you're taking the time to read a blog, you probably don't need to be hit over the head with someone else's opinion. I'm pretty sure we can all come up with a strong opinion of our own. And when you come right down to it, I hate the idea of getting into someone's face and trying to shove my ideas down their throats. (Just as I would hate to be the one having the ideas shoved at them). Think of me as Switzerland. Neutral on the surface. Underneath...not so much. There's also the knowledge that there are people I care very much about who I know are on the opposite side of the fence. They know where I stand. I know where they stand. We like each other anyway. I don't want to alienate people. So now what?

This is why I avoid most current news items.

And hot buttons.

Save me from the hot buttons. Please.

Like gay marriage.

And abortion.

And the death penalty.

And...politics.

But tonight, with possibly the most important election of my adult life just four weeks away, I'm really tempted to dip my toes in the water. I know I shouldn't. No one gives a rat's ass about my opinion. No one should give a rat's ass about my opinion.

But it might feel really good to just say it anyway.

I assume you said what I think you said. If you did, I completely agree, if you didn't, I don't know you as well as I thought I did.

Don't be afraid to say what you believe... pc has gone too far if we can't politely espose our ideals.

By the way, I completely agree with you!

That's a tough one. For my own blog, I steer away from that stuff. Mostly because I hate conflict and I don't really want to spark a flame war in the comments.

It sounds like you know the potential consequences of saying what you think about the hot button issues. So if you think you can handle it, go for it.

I'd be interested to see what you think and, even if I disagree with you, I will keep reading your blog.

Say it anyway RC - we're all entitled to our opinions!

Say it! I would love to hear it. And if people don't agree, they can always stop reading, right? I tend to agree with you that most contentious things should be kept off my blog, but just occassionally I can't keep it in anymore. (And that was a hilarious clip, btw)

Switzerland. Neutral on the surface and underneath... the most delicious chocolate in the world.

Hmm. I think you should say whatever you want. It's your blog after all.

I'm guessing you lean a little to the left.

Well hell. That explains it. I'm a middle child. That must be why my brothers won't speak to me. For myself, the stakes are to high to keep silent.

haven't looked at the clip yet.
I would be surprised if you thought the sun shone out of Mme Palin's posterior, though.
Maybe I should take a look at the clip and try to guess what your opinion is.
Apart from which, if people disagree so strongly with you, do you want them hangin around your place? LOL

Oh, please share....please, please! I will be watching the debate, with bells on...

I have friends on "the other side," too - it's a fine balance. But I would LOVE to hear your opinion...I'll be twittering mine tonight, for sure!

If I come to your blog I expect your opinions.
Okay, if I get them in my
(email) mailbox all the time - I get tired of it. Especially that I can't even vote so it makes no difference what I think or how I am persuaded.
But I like your opinions. I may or may not agree with them - but I am your friend and I respect your opinions and your right to air them on your blog.
Again - if you did this on every post, maybe I would pass by after a while. But once in a while, especially in your style, I would not object. How could I?

That video you embedded is hilarious! I can't get this programme over here in UK, so the fact that you took the trouble to put it up there gave me a chance to share the joke - thanks.

I think you should blog it if you want. The way you write will make it so right!! You are a gifted writer. This stuff in the news now just lends itself perfectly as blog fodder for you. Use it. It's your blog.
I look forward to your next post...

I don't think anyone would mind if you post about your beliefs, especially in the style you usually write in. Some readers might not agree with you, but I would be surprised if they decided not to visit again.

I know some bloggers have alienated readers but that usually seems to happen when they turn out to have odd views rather than strongly held but rational ones.
