I do think I may set a record of a different kind, however. In my (admittedly pissy) opinion, I'm betting that I haven't seen a winner in any category. I'm pretty sure that Daniel Day-Lewis and Julie Christie have Actor and Actress sewn up. I think Director is going to Paul Thomas Anderson for There Will Be Blood. And I'm willing to bet that Atonement takes Best Picture. This would be especially ironic since this is the one film I've wanted to see the most and haven't. I'm still trying to figure out how to fit in in Sunday afternoon, but I can tell you right now that it won't happen. Oh, well.

Since I haven't seen even one, I have no idea. I hope there is a minor miracle and you get to see Atonement.
omgoodness...i LOVED juno. when i went to visit my son in vegas during xmas break i took him to see that. we laughed our asses off. ellen's very good. have you seen hard candy? she's kinda scary in that movie. i haven't seen any of the movies you've mentioned or probably most that are up for oscars. i don't usually watch them either :( lol
The only best picture nominee I've seen is "Juno". "No Country for Old Men" finally opened in West Cork a few weeks ago, but we've yet to see it. I've also seen "Ratatouille" and "Sicko". Gone are the days when we used to see everything (and we don't even have kids).
I really loved "Juno" and would love to see Ellen Page win. No other opinions really. I REFUSE to see "There Will Be Blood" because I absolutely hate the way Daniel Day Lewis talks in that. HATE IT. Even more than I hate the whistling in "Bridge over the River Kwai".
Since the Oscars start over here at 1am, I won't be watching. Perhaps they will be over by the time I wake up and I'll see the winners on CNN.com.
The one film I have seen, and that was the only one, is Atonement, and I was absolutely bowled over by it.
I had tried to read the book before seeing the film, but found the book a little hard to get through, but the film was fabulous and so incredibly well done.
I hope it wins, although I don't know any of the other movies that it's up against, which is a little bit unfair of me.
The leading actor in Atonement, James McAvoy, did a fantastically believable job. I had never, to my knowledge, seen him in anything else and I really thought he did great, but I don't think he is nominated, is he?
Well, you just have to find a way to go see this film, take a kid with you, the oldest one, and have a nice afternoon or evening out.
The only nominees I've seen are Atonement, The Savages and Ratatouille. I loved Ratatouille (I adore good animation) and am hoping for a win there though Atonement and Savages were good.
let's see... the last movie we saw was "Wilby Wonderful," which does have ellen page in it. it was a pleasant little movie. i think it's canadian.

This is one of the first years that I haven't seen most of the movies nominated. I only saw Juno, last week, and I loved it, but was surprised it was nominated. I have no clue this year, how sad is that. Wait, I did see Johnny Depp, in Sweeney Todd. He was really amazing, for a person who...well..slashes throats. Who knew he could sing!
Melanie invited her theater friends over, so they know and really care. Should be an interesting night.

The only one I saw that has been nominated was Ratatouille & my feelings about that one are really mixed as you will see later if you bear with me! I shall be writing about rats in the pretty damn near future! Two weeks! I promise, if not sooner!!!!!!
The only movie I went to last year was Ratatouille, which we took the kids to. We intend to see movies, but it just doesn't happen. If we're going to spend a few hours away from the kids, we want to actually be able to talk to each other, so we end up sitting in a cafe sipping coffee.
I remember when we used to go to movies, though. It was nice.
Well I'm totally hacked about this whole Academy year. Started last January with the goal of seeing all the "important"--whatever that means--movies. By December I'd seen over 30, some that have made lasting impressions on me. How many AA contenders have I seen? Two! "Atonement" and "Away from Her". Both were award worthy, but I think Julie Christie will be the only winner of these two.
I'm just going to do my own awards in a blog post this week. Tonight I'll watch the beginning and end of the Oscars. In the middle, I have a date with Jane Austen's Mr. Darcy on PBS. . .heart flutters briefly.
I saw Juno,Away From Her,Atonement and The Savages. I want to see Michael Clayton (maybe this afternoon?) and am on the fence about seeing There Will Be Blood. I know I won't see No Country for Old Men, way too violent for me. From just my list I absolutely loved Juno, thought Atonement was a great 2nd, found Away From Her interesting but not as developed as I wanted (Julie Christie was great though), and hated The Savages, although I loved LL and PSH's performance. Oh and I love the new header!
I really haven't kept up on movies in the (almost)16 years since I've had kids, so this is problematic for me, too.
Of all the films I've seen only one (Juno) has been in a theater. If it wasn't for Academy screeners I'd be up a creek.
Change in my plans,though. I hadn't realized that No Country for Old Men was a)as violent as it it or b) something the FG had already seen, so last night we watched The Savages instead. And today have Away from Her if I can fit it in. Doubtful.Atonement? Not gonna happen.
I guess at this point it's more about the idea of the Oscars than it is about the actual movies. Sad.
Oh late again, but that's because I was picking out a frock don't you know.
I love Juno, absolutely love and adore it, but haven't seen any of the others so can't comment. I read Atonement though a few years ago and found it hard going, but I would like to see the film to see what they do with it I suppose.
