deep fried couch potato

Ah, yes. It's that self-improvement time of year. Soon it will be February and we can forget all about it, but right now most of the people I know are trying to "be good". Great. Like January's not dreary enough.

So I'm also trying to "be good". Sigh. This is not a "resolution". It's more an incentive to be able to start running again when my ankle agrees. For the most part it's okay, but I do have certain triggers that tend to set me off. Peanut butter is one. As much as I love it, I'm better off avoiding it completely right now, since one bite typically leads to a full-out assault on the jar with a spoon. I don't seem to have a stop button with peanut butter. Potatoes are another one. I don't believe there's a single combination of potatoes, grease and salt that I don't absolutely love. And once again, my stop button seems to have gone AWOL.

Why do some foods just strip us of our self-control? Or am I the only one without a stop button?

You are not the only one without a stop button. My down fall is sweets. It is just so hard to be good, and not much fun, either.

Step away from the spoon-that peanut butter may contain salmonella. Can't say the same is true for the fries. sorry. That's my public service announcement of the day.

Okay, so ice cream is not a good one for me either. Especially mint chip.

Rudee, I saw that online as soon as I posted. I wish I could say that that would stop me.

Sounds like you have an addictive personality (as do I). The only way I can combat it is to not have anything I like in the house (peanut butter, chocolate, chips, ice-cream, cookies, cake)...I just realised, my life sucks.

My weaknesses apart from chocolate, are anything with cheese in it, crisps (you call them potato chips, I think), icecream, mint chip in particular, crusty bread...... Oh I could go on..... all the wrong things.
Have you ever heard of someone who has a craving for lettuce?

With me it is cookies, I just bought some this evening, I didn't realise they were maple flavoured, not my favourite, but does that stop eating them......yeh right!! They are literally calling me from the kitchen.

My stop button doesn't work on wasabi-coated peas. They have the added advantage of clearing my sinuses big-time. My stop button can get stuck in the off position with almost any kind of ice cream. As long as I don't start I'm OK.

i have to say that my ability to control my "stop" button has improved greatly since i started exercising with mr. darcy and lost 14 pounds.

that said, i had a half-sleeve of McVitie's yesterday.

Yeah right, you're the only one with a stop button. Ha! I don't binge on dessert items but good, solid food, like french fries, anything with cheese in it, and of course, peanut butter.

The thing to do is just not to have them in the house.

I have no stop buttons for most food. I can't have a mouthful of anything without wanting the entire tub or packet or six. So I've had to cut them all out of my life and live on three meals a day. Period. Dull, but worth it to keep my sanity and sustain my joie de vivre .

My Auntie Em's "chicken pot pie"--homemade noodles smothered in homemade gravy. Never saw a scrap of chicken. Howzabout I cut out the middle man and just duct tape the whole mess to my thighs??

My son is eatting a bowl of ice cream right now, I just put away the carton and didn't even think to lick the spoon. But after reading your post, I want to drive the 20 minutes to a store to buy some chips!!!

I have no chips in the house. My new years resolution two years ago actually worked and the only way I can stay the size God intended is to back away from the CHIPS!!!

Is it wrong that, when I saw the salmonella story, my first thought was, "Awesome. Now I can eat the PB, get sick, and lose the lbs. " Now that's sick!

Thank god I'm not alone. You've all made me feel a lot better about my, uh, self control issues.

And Sandy? Took the words right out of my mouth, babe. Word for word.
