saturday night's alright for fightin'

I'm sitting in my dark dining room, in my pitch black (except for the computer screen) downstairs dodging Nerf bullets as I write this. Four boys - fully armed with Nerf guns and survival gear infrared lights - are having a two on two battle that I know beyond a shadow of a doubt is going to turn ugly at any second. Surfer Dude is having a sleepover and I will be the first casualty. What else is new?

Lots of interesting things going on in RCville, but they'll have to wait. I can't possibly compete with four armed boys on a sugar high.

But just as a little preview...I got asked out for the first time since the divorce. By a 28 year old. And kind of hunky, now that I really think about it. WTF? Then, not 48 hours later, it happened again...by someone far more age appropriate. WTF squared. Is it a full moon? A leap year?

Or is it my new Nerf perfume?

People like you and think that an appropriate time has passed for you. That is the reason. Great!

I admit, I would feel awkward going out with a 28 year old, but maybe you would enjoy it just fine, you are younger than I am, after all. I think it is great that you are getting asked out and I hope you said yes on at least one occasion.

oooh secret confessions in a darkened room, you go girl!, the 28 yr old sounds intriguing - go on, do it so that the rest of us can live vicariously through your love life :)

let me guess--you were sarcastic to both of them?

and that made them love you all the more?

doug is 5 years younger than i am. i think five years is my limit. in either direction.

Did you say yes to either/both of them? Hope so. Nothing wrong with dating.

Wow. Good for you.

Either that young one has a Mrs. Robinson fetish, or you look far younger than you are. Either way, it can't be bad.

I was in my late twenties when I divorced. My mom was then an adjunct professor at TU. She asked me to help her proctor some exams; that night, I was asked out for the first time by a grad student who was also proctoring exams. I turned him down, but it sure was a great ego booster!

Maggie May - who decides on this "appropriate time" business? I think you're right, it just intrigues me.

Irene - I could be his mother. Let me repeat. I could be his MOTHER.

softinthehead - the only thing to live vicariously through is the smell of stinky feet that permeates my house.

laurie - now, that's not fair. Accurate, but not fair. (and where were you hiding, anyway?) I was absolutely dumbfounded with the young 'un. I kept treating it like a joke and he kept saying "You're not taking me seriously, ARE YOU??" The second one I kind of saw coming, so I had time to practice my playing dumb routine. (comes a little too naturally, if you ask me).

Methinks you know me a little too well...

Rose - hell, no, I didn't. I ran the other way as fast as I could.

Iota - it's the haircut. I have a new haircut, and it has been quite the experience.

kaycie - Mrs. Robinson, definitely. I look 60 these days. More likely he thinks I might be hitting desperation mode and wants to take advantage of it!

Potty Mummy - I weenied out.Big time. 28???? Come ON!!

o.k. so when are you going out with them? hehe :)

You did say yes to the gentleman who you aren't old enought to be his mother, didn't you? So, when's the big date and where are you going? I'll assume it's not dancing with your boot.

the rotten correspondent said...

I repeat. I said no twice. Actually that isn't true. I said no once and played stupid once. Actually that isn't true either. I said are you kidding me once and played stupid once. Same difference. No date for me.

And the boot is gone. Wahoo!!

You said NO to a date with a HUNK? Why???

Stacie said...

I can't believe you said no! Once I can understand, but twice?

Better get used to it. I bet there are more invites around the corner... :-)

That Janie Girl said...

Girlfriend. That is sweet.

Does that promote you to cougar status, or is it only if you chase them?

It's The Obama Fever. I'm telling you, it's oozing into everything. Go out, have fun, consider it field research for your writing:>)

Altaglow said...

You turned them BOTH down????? WTF???????

Rudee said...

I think you should have said yes to both. They're dates, not lifetime commitments. Just don't let the Arabic aunts catch wind.

the rotten correspondent said...

Akelamalu - because I'm scared shitless to get back into the game. To be blunt about it.

Stacie - oh, god, I hope not.

Janie - okay, what is this cougar thing? One of my friends said it too, and I was too embarrassed to admit that I don't know what it means. Is it bad??

distracted - field research, eh? Sounds kind of...interesting...

Altaglow - alright, mother, don't you start too!

Rudee - you want to know something funny? I'm so scared of the Arabic aunts that I didn't tell them about the divorce until about three weeks ago. Those women are hellions.

Altaglow said...

Just saying you might find something more fun to do on a Sat. nite than a nerf fight. Just saying!!

Also, those Arabic ladies scared the hell out of Xerxes as he was passing through. Don't let them fix you up with anyone!

That's awesome. So, which one? Or both? (are the nerfs glow in the dark?)

The haircut, of course. If anything ever happens to Peter, I am going to have to stop cutting my own hair.

Daryl said...

Cool ... and why ask why .. just enjoy!

Hey take a chance it's only a date. You don't have to do anything you don't want to do and you deserve some fun. x

you're right, dating is scary. but gotta get back on the horse sometime. it's hard dating aft sep/div. gotta do it when you don't have the kids around, cos you don't introduce em to dates unless it gets serious. i think if i had to do it all over again, i prob woulda waited til kids grown. hell, i don't know lol
