My kids are officially out of school until mid-August.
They are bouncing off the walls at the idea of hanging out with their friends and lazy days and playing video games until their brains atrophy. Sasquatch is on the first sleepover of the 2008 Summer Tour. We have weekend plans that include Indiana Jones, a Memorial Day BBQ and a birthday camp-out. (Not ours, thank goodness).
And me? All I can think is that today I get to sleep in as late as I want. No early alarms. No school or work to clock into. No nothing. Just me and a fuzzy blanket and rain outside the open window and snoring kids and dogs.
It will take about a week before summer starts kicking my butt. And until the kids start realizing that the reality of their summer is going to be very different from the fantasy. I may as well rest up while I can.

The holidays are really different from ours. We break up the end of July & go back early September.
It is a lovely feeling just starting out on a holiday though. We have ten glorious days off! Except the weather is far from glorious! It is cold & wet!
Like to snuggle in a blanket!
I've missed Indy-I am glad he's back but I'm a bit concerned about snakes- I just don't care much for the snake stuff.
Oh lucky you! I can't remember the last time I had a lie in and I need one, desperately. The bags under my eyes could hold the weekly shop at the moment.
Yes, kids do make me laugh when they are all so eager at the start of the hols then it soon turns to "got nothing to do" time. Hope you have a nice relaxing day, RC.

One of my kids favourite summer games was "playing schools" where they bossed each other around imposing rules and regulations!! Weird eh?
Yes - enjoy it while you can. Ours finish today for a couple of weeks' "half term break" and then I get a reprieve and they are back at school another six weeks before the summer marathon...
Wow, your kids are done early. Mine get out June 11.
Your morning sounds so peaceful. Savor it.
Hi RC
Well Lu has finals next week and then he is finished with school. This does not leave us a lot of plans or relaxation over Memorial Day weekend.
It will be quite a bit of studying. But we are planning an all day movie day on Saturday. Just keep going to movies until we are sick of them. We have Indiana Jones on our list as well as Chronicles of Narnia...not sure what else. Enjoy your day of sleepign in, my friend

Wow, my two have just broken up for a week, then they go back till the end of July, so our summer doesn't start till then. Hope you have a fab time and get some relaxing done. You can borrow David Tennant if you want. I still have him. ;)
Out of school already? Good luck!
wow, there are so many people whose kids get out SOOO early!
we still have a couple weeks. and then summer school (for the incoming high-schooler!) starts immediately.
no rest for the wicked.
Today was the eldest sons last day, it was a half day. I am totally not looking fwd to this summer. He complains that his summer is one week shy of 3 months, I am wishing it was just one month!
I remember as a youngster I loathed starting school in August, but LOVED getting out in May!
So what does reality hold for them? Any tips worth sharing?
I am going to pull my hair out.
Around here our school district is pushing the concept of year-round school with 2-3 week breaks thrown in. There's a slightly longer break for summer (maybe 6 weeks?) and then it's back to the classroom.
So you have your kids around more often but for shorter periods of time. I'm not sure how the parents feel about this, but it's already been implemented in a couple of the middle schools and elementary schools, and the local paper hasn't had any headlines on parents who have had frequent but shorter break breakdowns.
