For the same reason I was yesterday. It's stressful trying to get everyone rounded up and out the door.

Does everyone have their bags? Lunches? Money for lunches? No, well, hell then, y'all can just starve or eat pencil shavings.

Trying to get kids organized and out the door on time after a summer of no deadlines is enough to make anyone unstable and bitchy. Or...more unstable and bitchy, depending on who you are.

I used to love it when my kids were on vacation. I had "stressless" mornings without having to get them up, feed them and make sure they had everything they needed for the day. I didn't have to come home and deal with homework, or do a load of laundry so one of them had the right outfit for tomorrow, and I didn't have to keep a separate calender for all the extra events, practices, performances, ect.
I would get bitchy because I would have to go back on their schedules, not mine. That and school shopping for 2 girls is absolutly NO fun!

school? in mid-august? if i were your kids, i'd be the crabby ones. we always started right after labor day.

"dazed and confused" is the name of a play that was being shown off-broadway a few years back. my friend katy and i took turns posing for pictures under the marquee because it described our normal state of mind so well.

mid august sounds very early to go back to school - when did they break up? So much to organise - hope it all goes OK! How did the dinners go?!

ciara - that sucks. It's like the old bait and switch routine and you're the loser. Aargh!

jen - yeah, it is a lot to coordinate and no matter how much I've tried to get done today will still be a mad dash to the finish line. How did TFYO's first day go?

auntie barbie - I completely agree about summer being lower stress. I slept until 9:15 this morning just because I could, knowing that tomorrow morning the alarm will go off at the crack of dawn and it will be SHOWTIME.

laurie - you should post those pictures. We'd all be wanting to photoshop our faces in!

flowerpot - they got out of school the end of May. We're on an "agricultural" schedule here, which always throws me off. In California we'd start in September and finish in June.
We ended up doing a spur of the moment potluck with friends last night so I haven't had to grapple witht the dinner situation yet. I got some terrific ideas though!

Jen is right.

Because you've got to iron clothes, do hair (though I suppose boys are generally a bit easier in that respect), make sandwiches, polish shoes, and get them all up, scrubbed, dresseand fed to be at school/work on time.

r.c.-i'm in no. cali and we start mid aug and end end of may unless they take on those 9 days lol i'm just ready for ME time. my husband is gone about 12 or more hours a day b/t his 10 work day and his commute time so i'm pretty much dealing w the kids ALL day. if my hair wasn't already falling out from thyroid condition, i'd be yanking it out! lmao

Hey RC, TFYO is doing remarkably well. She's got a split personality though. At home she can be a terror, yesterday, she won a book for being so good at school. She's even making friends, and apparently keeps trying to lead music class.

Hope the first day goes well for you all.
